Richard Ramirez was on suicide watch in the days after his August 30, 1985 arrest and a sheriff deputy who was watching him said he saw Ramirez drawing symbols of devil worship in his own blood on the floor of his cell on September 2, 1985.“I looked through the doorway and saw the defendant sitting on the toilet,” said Deputy Gerald Newbold. “He was bleeding from the palm.” He said he watched Ramirez dip his left hand into the blood on his right palm and write on the floor the numbers “666” and draw a pentagram.
